The Iconic Puzzle Game Couldn't Triumph at The Game Awards — An Additional Classification May Address This Issue

Whenever a major prize-giving event draws close, there’s always a demand to include of new categories to acknowledge overlooked contributions and delight the spirits of followers with niche passions.

A fellow writer has already made supporting a scary games classification. That would be fantastic. Equally deserving are board games, this being a dedicated supporter's campaign. Yet I need to apologize in advance when I prioritize just as with other blinkered fanatics, I possess a compelling case for why my demand is the most urgent above others. The demand is this: We need a classification for brain-teasing titles.

Organizing Gaming Categories

Organizing artistic expressions is not a science; it remains highly personal, and inevitably generate discussions resulting in unclear classifications. This explains why movie academies don’t do it. But it is an unavoidable compromise in the world of video games, showing incredible range it's challenging to consider them as a single art form.

For the full spectrum of gaming accomplishments to receive acknowledgment, while allowing diverse titles to receive proper recognition, classification by type becomes crucial.

Existing Game Classification System

The major gaming awards currently feature award types recognizing Action, Action/Adventure, RPG experiences, Combat games, Simulation and strategy titles, plus athletic and racing experiences. Collectively, these classifications effectively encompass numerous genres, and you can find room for most games within them.

This doesn't apply to puzzle games. No suitable classification appears for their placement. Examine these examples from this year’s best games, all very different: building puzzles from a specific release, intense tile-matching in a different title, engaging interpersonal challenges of a third title. Which classification works between these six categories? Simply put, no category fits.

Recognition Challenges

Many instances occur excellent brain-teasers released every year without proper recognition during gaming ceremonies, unless they happen to qualify classification types such as Handheld titles, VR/AR Game, or the extremely competitive small studio competitions.

  • A renowned logic title wasn’t nominated for anything during that awards season
  • A different innovative game received no nominations during that ceremony
  • A beloved organization game was overlooked in 2021
  • Just some puzzle games managed to sneak into independent or mobile categories

Significance of Puzzle Games

Frequently they represent modest productions, yet the craft of the puzzle game is of massive significance. Iconic mobile puzzle games stand as most engaged experiences worldwide and have been for an extended period.

The iconic tile-matching title competes with well-known building titles claiming status as best-selling game of all time; it’s also in the running for best game of all time. Brain-teasers form essential building blocks to the art of video games, and engaging with diverse game types.

The Solution and Justification

Puzzle games wouldn’t have that issue. It would be easy to populate multiple candidates engaging, different, qualified experiences every year with ease — perhaps, with difficulty, since numerous excellent so many good games out.

To emphasize again, these represent titles that otherwise have no home at major gaming awards. Brain-teaser creators are working at the hard edge interactive creation, developing some of the purest expressions of the video game form. Just like movie stunt professionals, they deserve recognition. We shouldn't delay generations.
